Alternate Reality Games

Wired has a very interesting article about Alternate Reality Games (ARG’s) that combine gaming with real world experiences. New ARG’s are starting to more tightly integrate social networking and media such as Facebook, Twitter, online video, photos, augmented reality, badges and other features. Are Alternate Reality Games and Social Games on a collision course or could this lead to yet another cross-pollination for social gaming? From the article:

” Location-based gameplay also made powerful inroads into alternate reality game design as QR codes and deaddrops continued to be a driving force behind real world interactions, but SCVNGR emerged as the real victor for the year. ”
