EA devours Angry Birds….or Do They?

Entertainment Arts strengthens their mobile social games department with the acquisition of Chillingo. However, TechCrunch reports that Chillingo may not have exclusive control of the wildly popular Angry Birds social game. Articles and analysis from:

Bloomberg “ Electronic Arts will preserve the company’s independence, Rockwood said. The purchase price was less than $20 million, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing an unidentified source close to the deal.”

GigaOM ” The deal shows that traditional game publishers are increasingly looking to diversify into lower-cost, casual games that are delivered digitally. EA has been talking for some time of getting away from games as a packaged goods business into games as place people go.”

MTV.com ” Chillingo also has ZeptoLab’s “Cut the Rope” in its publishing stable, where it generated more than a million paid downloads during its first seven days on the market. If EA gets a few more games like that out of the Manchester-based publisher, they ought to make their money back really fast.”
